I am rejoicing that a new day is dawning here at Community. We have unanimously ratified the third pastor of our church in the person of Dr. Kevin Wesley Early. Our church has been built on the foundation of love, faith and compassion and our new pastor exemplifies those qualities.
The year 2020 is the beginning of a new year, a new decade and a new beginning for our church. Transition is taking place all around our church building. Homes are being revitalized; a new school is across the street as our neighborhood is experiencing change. Now we are experiencing the challenge of fighting the coronavirus which is shutting down our city. Ministry now has new challenges legally, theologically and ethically. These changes require fresh vision for the challenges of tomorrow.
I am convinced that Kevin Wesley Early D. Min. is a proven leader with vision. He is seasoned enough to navigate change; he inspires people to give their best for Christ and engage in community affairs. He is known for being a loving pastor, biblical scholar and a motivational speaker. His pastoral experience is an asset to our ministry.
A new day is dawning as we exercise our faith. Faith can take us from the familiar to the unfamiliar. When we graduated from school we moved from people and situations we knew well and walked into the unknown. Faith is applied when we are moving from times of uncertainty to a place of trusting God. Our faith should help us to trust God for the new day that is dawning.
A day is dawning when we sharpen our focus. Each day we wake up we should concentrate on our activities of the day. Our focus could be the activities of work, our worship or our word. Whatever you choose to do it is a result of your focus. While we are going through this crisis, choose to rest. We have been too busy, now God is slowing us down. Focus on the time of rest.
A day is dawning when we learn to be faithful. God is faithful and His desire is for us to be faithful. We want faithful leaders and leaders desire faithful followers. This combination can produce a new day and a new spirit. Community, you are receiving a faithful leader and I believe you will remain faithful followers.
We are trusting God in this new day that is dawning.
